Mitigating Future Threats

In 2012-13, we designed and delivered a series of futures workshops as part of a major Dstl-funded study into how to achieve ‘Shared Situational Awareness’ across the British government, and a separate initiative led by the UK Joint Forces Command.

They included the identification, categorisation, and analysis of potential situations or events that would need to be addressed by the UK in the next 5 years. Mixed groups of civilian and military personnel mapped scenarios in the homeland, Kenya, Somalia, Syria, Libya and Iran, and then evaluated the implications for MoD doctrine and capability to respond to such scenarios in light of the UK Armed Forces' return to contingency operations.
